Ancient Olympia: Common Grounds
As part of Microsoft's AI for Cultural Heritage project, we collaborated with Microsoft and the Greek government to create a digital reconstruction of ancient Olympia as it stood more than 2,000 years ago.
Our primary focus was the Mixed Reality exhibition in the Athens Olympic Museum. Using Microsoft's HoloLens, visitors take an MR tour through culture and history, from what archeologists have learned from the present ruins to what it would have looked like in ancient days.

Using the HoloLens mixed reality headset, viewers are invited to interact virtually with the buildings and artifacts from the historic site.
Viewers are able to walk through the site and experience art, culture and history while listening to guided narrations.
Users can explore Ancient Olympia in minute detail just as it was when the ancient Greek athletes competed 2,000 years ago.
The digitally preserved buildings were reconstructed using photogrammetry taken from the site along with information from archaeological research to help viewers understand what the sites would have looked like at the time.
To facilitate collaboration with Greece we had a full recreation of the site that was created to prototype on. This allowed us to build with the right context, record WIP content, and iterate quickly with the client.
